Role Purpose

  • The Hardware Engineer (Repair Centre) is the technical authority embedded within a repair centre. This role bridges the gap between hands-on repair operations and engineering-level quality governance. It exists to ensure that every repaired terminal leaving the centre is fit for redeployment, that technician capability continuously improves, and that quality failures are understood, root-caused, and eliminated.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design electronic hardware circuits and ensure it complies with specifications.
  • Design printed circuit board (PCB) layout as specified.
  • Create, maintain and update engineering related aspects (e.g. parts, bill of materials) of a design or product.
  • Develop processes and procedures that will support training technician competency to repair with the specified standards, guidelines and technical requirements.
  • Create, maintain and update repair procedures.
  • Conduct testing of products and tools. Recommend modifications and corrections to design deficiencies through evaluation of operational capability of product/equipment.
  • Research, plan, analyze and support hardware design and modifications to determine the feasibility of design or application.
  • Research and analyze specifications and manuals of hardware products.
  • Documentation: Maintaining detailed records of repair process, repair results and issues identified during the process.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with repair technicians, hardware engineers and relevant teams..
  • Process Improvement: Identifying areas for improvement to enhance overall repair process, quality and efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as delegated and assigned by Line Manager.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/ Electronics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in terminal repair is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to reconcile discrepancies and identify areas for improvement.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.

Driving platformisation of inventory and supply chain systems so operational data is visible, trustworthy and consistent across millions of terminals. Bridging the gap between operational practice and software systems by building operationally disciplined solutions. Defining architecture standards, engineering processes and quality metrics across squads to ensure reliability and data integrity. Collaborating with business and operational stakeholders to translate operational requirements into engineering solutions. Hiring, mentoring and developing engineering managers and senior engineers to support team growth up to 30+ members. Who You Are 10 - 15 years of overall software engineering experience, with at least 5 years leading engineering teams through growth phases. 5+ years of hands-on, production-level experience writing and shipping Java code as a practising engineer. This means years spent writing Java yourself, not years spent overseeing teams who write it. At least 5 years of experience managing managers - leading an engineering organisation through other engineering leaders, rather than running a single team.
