Position Overview

  • The Graphic Designer will support the development, execution, and visual translation of AHFID's communication and brand strategies across digital and print platforms. The role will assist in producing compelling design assets, maintaining brand consistency, and identifying creative approaches that strengthen how AHFID's work is seen and understood by its stakeholders. Working under the guidance of the Communications Lead/relevant supervisor, the Graphic Designer will contribute to campaign design, visual storytelling, and brand asset development that supports AHFID's mission.
  • The role requires someone who thinks visually before they think in software someone who can translate ideas, data, and brand voice into design that holds attention in a feed, on a stage, or on a printed page. This role sits at the center of how Africa Hub for Innovation & Development is seen as well as it's credibility within the development sector, particularly in the African context.

Key Responsibilities

Visual Identity & Brand Consistency

  • Maintain and evolve AHFID's visual identity across digital and print.
  • Ensure design consistency across campaigns, platforms, and teams without becoming repetitive or generic.
  • Build and maintain a scalable design system (templates, style guides) so brand quality holds even under tight deadlines.

Campaign & Content Design

  • Design graphics for social media, email campaigns, presentations, reports, and events.
  • Translate written content and data into visual formats that are easy to understand at a glance: infographics, one-pagers, carousels.
  • Partner with the communications team to design with the story, not just illustrate it after the fact.

Trend Awareness & Creative Direction

  • Stay current on design trends across social platforms, applying only those that genuinely serve the brand.
  • Bring fresh formats to the team proactively.
  • Balance originality with practicality: work should be distinctive, but producible on realistic timelines.

Motion & Multi-Format Design

  • Create short-form motion graphics and animated content for social and digital use.
  • Adapt single designs across multiple formats and aspect ratios without losing visual integrity.

Collaboration & Process

  • Work closely with AHFID team, external vendors on larger productions when need arise.
  • Take feedback constructively and iterate efficiently.
  • Organize and maintain a clean, accessible archive of design files and brand assets.

Tools & Craft

  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop) and Figma or Canva.
  • Comfortable using AI-assisted design tools as part of a faster workflow, while applying independent judgment on what's usable.
  • A working understanding of basic motion tools (After Effects, CapCut, or similar).

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Candidates must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BSc) in Film, Creative Arts, Digital Media, or a related field and must have completed the NYSC programme.
  • At least 3+ years of professional experience producing visual materials for digital and social media platforms, with a portfolio of previous work
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Canva, Illustrator or any working knowledge of graphic design tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
