Frontend Developer

Tonic Technologies

Nigeria, Ghana, nigeria

full-time

Job Summary We're The Tonic Technologies, and we're looking for a Frontend Engineer who gets annoyed when a page loads slowly. You'll build the web experiences [1.8M+] people across Nigeria and Ghana use every day, often on a mid-range Android with two bars of network. That means turning Figma designs into clean React and TypeScript components, making things fast on slow connections, and taking real care with flows like payments, wallet funding and KYC, where mistakes cost people money. It's full-time and remote, for engineers based in Nigeria. Why we need you Our users are not sitting on MacBook Pros with fibre internet. Many are on a mid-range Android, two bars of network, and a battery at 14%. They're trying to fund a card before a subscription renews, or sell a gift card before the rate changes. If our web experience is slow, confusing, or breaks halfway through a payment, that's real money and real stress for a real person. We need someone who takes that personally. What you'll actually be doing You'll build and maintain the web products people already use not a greenfield toy app. That means three production surfaces, all talking to the same backend: The consumer web app wallet, gift cards, virtual dollar cards, bills, gadgets, eSIM. This is a Next.js app, used by customers in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa. The partner / B2B dashboard merchants and developers on our Gift Card API. Vite, React, TypeScript, internationalised. The internal admin dashboard the screens Operations use to help those customers. Vite, React, TypeScript. Privileged. Some days that's turning a Figma file into components so clean our designers send you voice notes of appreciation. Some days it's figuring out why a page takes 6 seconds to load on a Tecno and getting it down to 2. Some days it's sitting with backend engineers arguing (respectfully) about what an API response should look like. You'll also work on flows where mistakes cost money: payments, wallet funding, withdrawals, KYC, rates, , $ and amounts that must not lie. These apps are containerised and ship to our Kubernetes cluster through Argo CD. You don't need to be a platform engineer. You do need to be comfortable that "done" includes a Docker build and a rollout, not only a green preview URL. The stack you'll walk into React 18/19 TypeScript. You will also read, fix, and improve a large JavaScript Next.js codebase. Next.js and Vite + React Router. Comfort with both matters more than a favourite. Redux Toolkit for client state. react-hook-form + Yup for forms. Sass. REST against our Node APIs. Yarn, ESLint, Prettier, Husky, conventional commits. GitHub pull requests with a real review. Docker. GitOps (Argo CD) for what actually reaches production. Requirements You'll probably do well here if: You've spent 3+ years shipping React that real people use, and you can write TypeScript without fighting it. You have production time in Next.js or Vite (both is better). You know your way around Redux, REST APIs, Git, and code reviews. You care about what happens after the code ships, not just whether the PR got approved. You can explain a technical decision to a PM without making them feel small, and you will ask "but why?" when a ticket has no country, no currency, or no success state. You have felt a slow page or a broken amount on a real phone, and you treated it as your problem. You use AI tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT whatever works) to move faster, and you still read what they give you. You do not paste customer data (PII) or secrets into a model. Bonus points if: You've worked in fintech or payments. You've built or maintained a design system. You know your XSS from your CSRF. You've shipped i18n. You've read a Dockerfile or an Argo rollout without panic. You've dabbled in React Native we have a mobile app; this role is not that job. None of these are dealbreakers. They just make us smile. This probably isn't for you if: You want a role where tickets come in perfectly specced, and you never have to ask "but why?" Or you think performance is something to look at later. Or you've never shipped anything outside a tutorial. Or you only want to write greenfield TypeScript and refuse to touch the JavaScript that already serves customers. No shade. Just not the fit.

Senior Web Designer

Paystack

Lagos, nigeria

full-time

Department: Creative Studio About the Senior Web Designer role We're looking for a Senior Web Designer to help make Paystack the most delightful payments platform for businesses and their customers across Africa. You're a strong designer who can build what you design; someone who thinks of the web itself as a design surface, not just a delivery mechanism for someone else's file. You'll own paystack.com and our public-facing web presence: designing and building microsites, product pages, and campaign landing pages that help sell our products and services. You care as much about keeping people on a page as you do about how it looks. You'll report to the Design Studio Lead, and work closely with frontend engineers who are deeply focused on performance and systems. You don't need to own that depth yourself. You should be able to design and build a page to production quality on your own, and partner with an engineer to fine-tune performance, edge cases, and systems integration. We'll trust you to: Own our public web presence end to end. From paystack.com to microsites and campaign-specific landing pages, you'll take a brief from concept through to a shipped, production-ready experience. Design and build, not just one or the other. You'll translate briefs, product narratives, and visual direction into interfaces yourself pixel-perfect, responsive, accessible, and fast. Create strong work even without a full brief. Your taste and design sensibilities mean you don't need everything spelt out. You'll shape interaction patterns, motion, and web experience concepts where the brief isn't fully formed. Build for scale. You'll create reusable components, patterns, and interaction systems that speed up future web work and help maintain our design system across web properties. Optimise for people, not just pages. You'll build with performance, accessibility, and conversion in mind across devices and connection speeds, so pages are fast, usable by everyone, and keep people engaged. Bring engineering judgment to creative decisions. You'll weigh animation approach and maintainability, keep performance in mind without needing to be the one obsessing over it, and partner closely with the engineer who owns deeper performance and systems work. Give and receive feedback. You'll join design crits, share work early, and help the team sharpen its taste collectively. You'll thrive in this role if you Design & build: 5+ years of web design or design engineering experience at a tech-forward, product-driven company. You think of the web as a design surface you have a sharp eye for typography, layout, motion, and detail, and can implement pixel-perfect UIs from a spec or your own concept. You have strong HTML and CSS, are comfortable working in React (TypeScript a plus), and can work with modern frontend tooling and Git. You write clean, shippable front-end code without needing to be a full software engineer. You have experience with motion and interactivity on the web with tools like GSAP, Framer Motion, CSS animations, scroll-driven animation, or similar. You have a portfolio of interactive or motion-heavy web work such as microsites, WebGL experiments, CSS art, Figma plugins, or similar. You're fluent in Figma and can bridge design and build yourself, collaborating closely with designers when they're available and holding both sides when they're not. Judgement & delivery: You can take a brief and turn it into a polished, production-ready web experience end to end, with minimal direction. You treat accessibility (WCAG) and cross-browser, cross-device support as defaults, not afterthoughts. You're familiar with Webflow or similar low-code tools, SEO best practices, and web analytics or conversion tracking. You have strong product and storytelling instincts, and make good decisions when requirements are ambiguous. You use LLMs or AI development tools to speed up exploration and delivery. Bonus points if you: Understand frontend performance fundamentals (image optimisation, loading strategy, Core Web Vitals) and design with real-world network conditions in mind. Have experience with Three.js, WebGL, React Three Fiber, or other immersive web technologies. Have built design systems, component libraries, or reusable interaction patterns. Have experience with internationalisation or localisation for multilingual sites. Benefits Competitive compensation package and benefits 13th month bonus TSG Equity compensation Full medical coverage Wellbeing stipend Generous leave policies Hybrid working environment Smart, kind colleagues who are invested in your growth.
