Job Summary

• The French Teacher is responsible for teaching French language effectively, developing students' speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, and creating an interactive learning environment that encourages students to communicate confidently in French.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver well-structured French lessons in line with the school's curriculum and scheme of work.
• Develop students' proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation.
• Prepare lesson plans, lesson notes, teaching materials, and other required academic records.
• Encourage students to communicate in French during lessons through conversations, role-playing, presentations, and other interactive activities.
• Introduce students to relevant aspects of French culture and Francophone countries to improve their understanding of the language.
• Prepare students for internal and external examinations where applicable, including WAEC and NECO.
• Set, administer, mark, and record assignments, tests, examinations, and other assessments.
• Monitor students' academic progress and provide additional assistance to students who require support.
• Maintain effective classroom discipline and create a positive and engaging learning environment.
• Use appropriate teaching aids, audio-visual materials, and educational technology to enhance language learning.
• Maintain accurate records of students' attendance, assessment results, and academic progress.
• Participate in staff meetings, training programmes, school events, examinations, and extracurricular activities.
• Organise or support French clubs, language competitions, cultural activities, and other programmes that encourage students to practise French.
• Communicate students' progress and learning difficulties to school management and parents when required.
• Perform other academic duties assigned by the Principal or school management.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Candidates should possess a B.A./B.Ed. in French, French Education, Modern Languages, or a related discipline
• A recognised teaching qualification and TRCN registration are desirable. Applicants should have strong written and spoken French, good pronunciation, effective classroom-management skills, and the ability to make language lessons engaging and practical. Previous experience teaching French in a primary or secondary school is an advantage.
