About The Role

Specific Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.

Food Safety Trainee Role Overview The Food Safety Trainee supports the implementation and day-to-day monitoring of food safety programmes within assigned kitchens and schools. Working under the guidance of the Food Safety Associate, the Trainee conducts routine inspections, monitors food safety practices, supports verification activities, and promotes compliance with established food safety standards while developing technical competency. Routine Food Safety Monitoring Conduct routine inspections of assigned kitchens and schools to verify compliance with food safety standards. Monitor compliance with hygiene practices, PPE requirements, housekeeping and sanitation standards. Identify food safety deviations and promptly report findings to the Food Safety Associate. Operational Oversight Routinely monitor receiving activities to verify that incoming food and food-contact materials meet established food safety requirements. Monitor storage, food preparation, production, dispatch and food service practices to identify potential food safety hazards. Monitor adherence to temperature control, segregation and cross-contamination prevention requirements. Verification Support Support the collection of food, water and environmental samples in accordance with established protocols and sampling schedules. Participate in routine verification activities, traceability exercises and food safety audits. Assist in follow-up of verification findings under the guidance of the Food Safety Associate. Follow-up of Corrective Actions Monitor implementation and verify completion of agreed corrective actions. Escalate overdue or recurring non-conformities to the Food Safety Associate. Food Safety Compliance Support Support kitchen managers and school teams in implementing food safety programmes and procedures. Continuous Learning Participate in food safety audits, verification activities, traceability exercises and incident investigations. Build technical competency in ISO 22000, HACCP, food safety regulations and Food for Education’s FSMS. Lab Trainee Role Overview The Lab Trainee will undergo a structured six-month training program focused primarily on microbiological testing with exposure to selected physico-chemical analyses (aflatoxin, moisture, water quality, and visual assessments). The role is designed to build foundational lab competencies, provide hands-on experience in food safety testing, and prepare the trainee to take on an independent lab role. This is a work-based learning opportunity where the trainee will contribute to day-to-day lab operations while developing technical and professional skills. Key Responsibilities Support in sample preparation, inoculation, plating, incubation, and colony counting under supervision. Assist with hygiene and environmental swabbing in line with zone 1/2/3 protocols. Participate in physico-chemical tests: moisture content, aflatoxin screening, water quality checks, and visual quality assessments. Accurately record test results in lab logbooks, and reporting templates. Draft preliminary Certificates of Analysis (CoAs) for review. Observe and support during audits, supplier inspections, and corrective action processes. Maintain lab hygiene, safety protocols, and proper use of equipment. Participate in an improvement project during the final month of training. Learning & Competency Areas Over six months, the trainee will develop: Microbiology Competencies:Aseptic technique, media preparation, microbial counts, pathogen detection, hygiene monitoring. Eligibility (Internal Applicants Only) Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Food Science, or a closely related field. Current employment with Food for Education for at least 1 year. Demonstrated discipline, attention to detail, and ability to follow SOPs. Strong interest in food safety and quality assurance. Basic computer literacy (Excel, Word, email communication). Previous exposure to kitchen audits, hygiene monitoring, or QA and processes will be an advantage, but is not mandatory. Food Safety Associate About Role The Food Safety Associate provides technical oversight and leadership for food safety across assigned operational clusters, ensuring effective implementation and continual improvement of the Food Safety Management System (FSMS), regulatory compliance, food safety verification, incident management and continuous improvement initiatives while promoting a strong food safety culture. Responsibilities Food Safety Management System Oversight Provide technical oversight of food safety programmes across assigned cluster(s). Support implementation and continual improvement of the Food Safety Management System. Verify compliance with prerequisite programmes (PRPs), regulatory requirements and internal food safety standards. Conduct scheduled and risk-based food safety inspections to assess compliance with the FSMS and regulatory requirements Operational Food Safety Assurance Provide oversight of receiving, storage, production, dispatch and food service operations to identify and manage food safety risks. Verify the effectiveness of critical food safety controls, including temperature control, allergen management and traceability. Verification and Validation Activities Coordinate food, water and environmental sampling programmes and other food safety verification activities including traceability exercises, mock recalls and withdrawal activities. Review laboratory reports and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders. Verify implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions. Support internal audits, external audits and regulatory inspections. Non-conformance and Incident Management Lead investigations into food safety incidents and non-conformities. Conduct root cause analysis and determine appropriate corrective and preventive actions. Monitor corrective action implementation, effectiveness and closure timelines. Escalate unresolved or high-risk food safety issues. Training and Technical Leadership Support the development and delivery of food safety training programmes. Mentor and provide technical guidance to Food Safety Trainees. Foster a culture of accountability and responsibility for food safety among kitchen and school staff. Promote a strong food safety culture through continuous cross functional engagement. Performance Monitoring, Reporting and Continuous Improvement Analyse food safety performance trends, verification data and inspection findings. Prepare and communicate food safety performance reports to the Senior Food Safety Associate and other relevant stakeholders. Recommend and drive continuous improvement initiatives based on performance data and identified risks. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inspections, verification activities, corrective actions and food safety performance metrics. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND COMPETENCIES Bachelor’s degree in Food Science and Technology or a related scientific discipline. Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant experience in food safety, quality assurance or quality control within the FMCG industry. Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in implementing and maintaining ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS) and HACCP principles. Professional certification or formal training in ISO 22000:2018, HACCP or Internal Auditing is an added advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for data analysis, reporting and performance monitoring. Demonstrated experience conducting food safety inspections, audits, verification activities and incident investigations, including the management of Corrective and Preventive Actions Strong leadership, analytical, critical thinking, decision-making and problem-solving skills.
