(senior) Research Officer For Nigeria, Based In Dakar

IMPACT Initiatives

nigeria

full-time

BACKGROUND ON IMPACT & REACH REACH was born in 2010 as a joint initiative of two International NGOs (IMPACT Initiatives and ACTED) and the United Nations Operational Satellite Applications Programme (UNOSAT). REACH’s purpose is to promote and facilitate the development of information products that enhance the humanitarian community’s decision making and planning capacity for emergency, reconstruction and development contexts. REACH facilitates information management for aid actors through three complementary services: (a) need and situation assessments facilitated by REACH teams; (b) situation analysis using satellite imagery; (c) provision of related database and (web)-mapping facilities and expertise. IMPACT Initiatives is a humanitarian NGO, based in Geneva, Switzerland. The organization manages several initiatives, including the REACH Initiative. The IMPACT team comprises specialists in data collection, management and analysis and GIS. We are currently looking for a (Senior) Research Officer to support our team in Nigeria. Department: REACH Position: (Senior) Research Officer Contract duration: 6 months Location: Dakar, Senegal, with possible travel to Abuja, Nigeria Starting Date: October 2026. In the Northeast, more than 8.8 million people require urgent assistance, including 4.9 million children, sustained displacement, protection risks, severe funding shortfalls, a growing nutrition emergency, and a cholera outbreak. Food insecurity is expected to reach record levels, with an estimated 34.7 million people nationwide projected to face Crisis-level food insecurity or worse by August 2026. Meanwhile, the Northwest faces a different but equally severe crisis driven by chronic poverty, banditry, communal violence, and recurrent flooding, which have displaced hundreds of thousands of people (800,000 IOM DTM R18), damaged livelihoods and farmland, and contributed to sharp declines in agricultural production. Together, these overlapping shocks are undermining resilience, increasing humanitarian needs, and threatening both current food security and future harvests.
