Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and monitor HSE policies, procedures, and programs in line with company requirements, applicable regulations, OSHA requirements, and international standards such as IFC.
  • Monitor HSE compliance across agricultural field activities, including the handling of chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, seeds, tools, machinery, and equipment.
  • Conduct regular HSE inspections, audits, field visits, and walkarounds to identify hazards and ensure effective control measures are implemented.
  • Provide HSE inductions, training sessions, toolbox talks, and safety awareness programs for field officers, aggregators, suppliers, farmers, contractors, and vendors.
  • Lead and support the investigation of incidents, accidents, and near-misses, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Conduct and support risk assessments for agricultural and feedstock supply chain activities and develop appropriate risk mitigation measures.
  • Support aggregators, suppliers, and contractors in developing and implementing Emergency Response Plans and conducting emergency drills.
  • Monitor environmental impacts of field operations, including agricultural waste management, chemical handling, biodiversity, and ecosystem services.
  • Develop and maintain HSE checklists for relevant agricultural and feedstock supply chain activities and ensure effective use by field stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate HSE records, including inspection reports, incident reports, risk assessments, training records, and corrective action tracking.
  • Prepare regular HSE reports and provide updates on field HSE performance, key risks, incidents, and areas for improvement.
  • Participate in weekly Agriculture Department meetings and present HSE activities, achievements, challenges, and planned activities.
  • Promote continuous improvement in HSE performance through lessons learned, best practices, and regulatory updates.
  • Liaise with internal departments, contractors, suppliers, farmers, vendors, and local authorities to promote effective HSE compliance.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by Management.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in HSE, preferably within agriculture, manufacturing, field operations, vegetable oil extraction, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in HSE management systems within an industrial or field-based environment.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and relevant health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Experience in HSE auditing, risk assessment, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of emergency response, firefighting, and occupational health and safety practices.
  • Strong understanding of environmental management and sustainable agricultural practices.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent OHS certification will be an added advantage.
  • Certified Risk Assessor qualification will be an added advantage.
  • Fluent in English and Swahili.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across field-based operations.
  • Strong ability to engage and influence contractors, farmers, suppliers, and other stakeholders on HSE requirements.
