Job Summary
To maintain complete and accurate accounting records for Norsworthy Farms plantation and mill operations, ensuring transactions are recorded promptly and reported in accordance with applicable accounting requirements.
The Farm Accountant supports financial control and operational decision-making through reliable accounts, reconciliations, budgets, asset records and financial reporting.
Duties and responsibilities
Maintain accurate and complete accounting records for all plantation and mill operations.
Ensure farm and mill transactions are reviewed, coded and posted to the accounting system promptly and in the correct period.
Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements and operational financial reports for management review.
Maintain proper records of accounts payable, receivables, cash and bank transactions, and other financial obligations.
Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and reconcile relevant control accounts, investigating and resolving differences promptly.
Ensure capital and operating expenditure are correctly classified, supported by documentation and recorded in the appropriate accounts.
Maintain accurate fixed asset registers for farm machinery, vehicles, equipment, buildings, roads and other plantation infrastructure, including additions, disposals and depreciation information.
Apply appropriate accounting treatment to biological assets, bearer plants, agricultural produce and inventories in accordance with applicable IFRS requirements.
Support preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and financial plans, and provide variance information to support operational decisions.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. A recognised professional accounting qualification such as ICAN, ACCA or ACA is an advantage.
8-12 years of relevant accounting experience are required; experience supporting agricultural, plantation, manufacturing or mill operations is an advantage. Strong spreadsheet and accounting-system skills, accuracy, integrity and ability to meet reporting deadlines are required.
