Job Summary
Provide operational legal support across Retail, Commercial, Corporate, MSME and Digital Banking business units through legal advisory, contract management, litigation support, compliance monitoring and legal research.
Support legal risk management initiatives while ensuring banking operations comply with applicable laws, regulations and internal policies.Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Review security documents such as Letters of Offer, valuation reports and related facilities documentation before issuing instructions.
Advise Credit Analysis teams on appropriate security structures for lending facilities.
Recommend amendments and improvements to security documentation.
Identify, assess and escalate legal risks arising from security perfection processes to Credit Management.
Conduct legal research and prepare advisory notes for review by the Legal Manager.
Interpret laws, regulations and internal policies and communicate their impact to business units.
Monitor and communicate regulatory circulars, legislative amendments and legal developments affecting banking operations.
Conduct legal awareness and compliance training for branches and support functions.
Maintain up-to-date Professional Indemnity records.
Ensure Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with external lawyers remain current and compliant.
Coordinate communication and stakeholder engagement with external counsel.
Monitor and evaluate the quality of advocates’ work and legal service delivery.
Compile external counsel reports for review by auditors and management.
Review contracts to ensure compliance with approved templates, legal standards and regulatory requirements.
Identify legal risks, compliance gaps and contractual weaknesses and recommend mitigation measures.Qualifications
Qualifications
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from a recognized university.
Postgraduate Diploma in Law (Advocates Training Programme).
Advocate (adsbygoogle=window.adsbygoogle||[]).push({});of the High Court of Kenya or an equivalent jurisdiction.
Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) or equivalent professional body.
Certification in Compliance or Data Protection will be an added advantage.Experience
Experience
Minimum two (2) to four (4) years of post-qualification legal experience.
Experience within a bank, financial institution or regulated environment is an added advantage.
Exposure to contract drafting, legal documentation, litigation support and regulatory compliance matters.Key Competencies
