JOB PURPOSE

  • The post holder is required to provide effective, timely and proactive Facilities support under the supervision of Facilities Manager in maintaining the safety of the school's buildings, grounds, and physical infrastructure. This role ensures that the facility is safe, clean, and conducive to learning, while adhering to HSE regulations and best practices. The appointed candidate with have a strong engineering background.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensuring the buildings, grounds and infrastructure are safe, compliant and welcoming to students, staff and visitors
  • Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and minor works
  • Report larger maintenance issues promptly to the Facilities Manager.
  • Assist with setting up rooms, furniture, and equipment for school events and classes.
  • Ensure indoor and outdoor areas are tidy and safe.
  • Assist with waste management and recycling.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, risk assessments, and compliance checks.
  • Ensure adherence to all HSE regulations and school safety policies.
  • Manage and monitor contractors and service providers to ensure quality and compliance.
  • Keep accurate maintenance and inspection records.
  • Follow all health and safety policies and report hazards or incidents immediately.
  • Assist in conducting regular safety checks, including fire alarms, maintenance of Ac's and emergency lighting
  • Help ensure safe storage of tools, chemicals, and equipment.

  • Undertake such training as may be reasonably required by the School to adapt to the changing requirements of the School or as may be necessary to fulfil the School's statutory or regulatory obligations.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant qualification in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering (MEP), Facilities Management, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant HSE/Health & Safety certification.
  • Relevant professional or technical qualification appropriate to facilities management.

Desirable

  • Degree or HND/HNC in Engineering, Facilities Management or a related discipline. * NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent recognised HSE qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience in facilities management or building services.
  • Experience of coordinating maintenance activities across mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Experience of managing external contractors, suppliers and service providers.
  • Experience of carrying out or contributing to risk assessments, method statements and health and safety inspections.
  • Experience of planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance.

Desirable

  • Experience within a school building
  • Experience of managing multiple facilities or sites.
  • Experience of managing facilities budgets and obtaining quotations from vendors. *
  • Experience of emergency planning and incident response.

Essential

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate day-to-day facilities and maintenance operations.
  • Ability to identify faults and coordinate appropriate corrective action across MEP systems.
  • Ability to organise own workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage and monitor contractors and vendors effectively.
  • Ability to assess risks and implement appropriate control measures.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, inspections, incidents and compliance.

  • Experience using facilities management or maintenance management systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and maintenance documentation.
  • Experience of procurement and contract management.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Strong knowledge of MEP systems and building services, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements and safe systems of work.
  • Working knowledge of risk assessments, method statements and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of contractor and vendor management principles.
  • Understanding of emergency procedures and workplace safety.
  • Good IT skills and ability to maintain accurate digital records.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of facilities management within an educational environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant local and international HSE standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of energy management, sustainability and environmental initiatives.
