About the role

A reputable organization in the built environment seeks an experienced and visionary Executive Director to lead its operations. Reporting directly to the Council, the Executive Director will be accountable for translating Council approved strategy into day-to-day operations, fundraising, safeguarding the Institute’s finances and reputation, and representing the Institute to members, government, industry, sponsors, and international peer bodies.

Role and responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Execute the Organisation’s long-term vision, annual goals, and Council decisions to advance the profession in Ghana.

Operational Management

Oversee daily administration, Human Resources (HR), finance operations, and programs execution.

Governance & Professional Standards

Serve as the spokesperson of the Organisation, ensure corporate governance, accountability, and professional standards.

Drive high-level initiatives, such as mandatory certification, ethical training, and professional development, to strengthen trust and resilience in the profession.

Financial Stewardship

Safeguard financial assets and all assets, ensure robust internal controls, and maintain transparency.

Generate funds for the running of the Organisation.

Advocacy, Stakeholder & Public Representation

Build relationships with relevant national and international bodies, MMDCEs, ministries e.g. the Ministry of Works & Housing, Universities, the Professional Regulatory Council, the media and other professional institutions in the built environment and ensure the Organisation serves as an authoritative, trusted voice on professional administration and policy.

Member Value & Engagement

Drive certification, continuous professional development (CPDs), ethical training, and publications to enhance member value.

Ensure the Institute advocates for as well as provide expert and ethical guidance to members, on practices and take steps to resolve all expert & ethical complains against its members.

Education, Research & Curriculum Development

Support accreditation, affiliation, examination & qualification process, curriculum development, and professional training.

Innovation & Digital Transformation

Champion modernization, digital transformation, sustainability, and climate-responsive designs.

Qualifications & Experience

A professional or relevant postgraduate degree, MBA or equivalent is an added advantage.

Professional qualification and a member in good standing in the related profession is required

Minimum of 15 years’ senior management experience.

Proven track record in architecture, built environment, management, public policy, law, or finance

A leader who is high achieving and have a demonstratable track record of driving business growth and success

Experience with international, multilateral, or bilateral organisations is a plus.

Demonstrated success in managing budgets, staff, and multi-stakeholder relationships.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong grasp of cooperate governance and strategy

Financial literacy sufficient to prepare and defend a budget and interpret management accounts.

Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and public representation skills.

Must have a strong communication and influence, problem solving, collaboration & relationship building skills

Proven ability to raise funds and build sustainable partnerships.

Emotional intelligence, resilience, and ability to inspire diverse teams.

Ability to set SMART goals, steward resources, and deliver sustainable impact.

Ability to uphold effective governance, ethical conduct and regulatory compliance while maintaining clear accountability between the Council/Board and management to achieve sustainable development

Ability to serve the public interest (trust, safety & wider interest) by maintaining and monitoring a range of professional competency standards and conducting quality reviews while ensuring that decisions serve public safety, trust and the wider public interest.

Ability to understand diverse member needs and deliver relevant, inclusive services and experiences relevant in improving and optimising member value and engagement.

Capacity to build and maintain trusted relationships, form productive alliances and influence policy, opinion and decisions that affect the profession and the built environment.

Ability to ensure efficient operations, financial sustainability and effective controls to identify and mitigate risks to internal processes, system failures and external events.

This will require the Regional Director to operate as required at regional and project levels to build the image and credibility of CABI with the Governments of Ghana and other member countries in the West Africa Region, funding bodies, partners, and client communities. The Regional Director (RD) acts as a key point of contact for organizational activities and works closely with the Project Management Office (PMO), to ensure quality delivery of projects. They are accountable for leading the representation of the full range of CABI’s offerings to Member Countries, building the profile and credibility of CABI with external stakeholders across the region, and driving business development. The RD will lead their local operation, including physical assets and Regional Operations & Infrastructure team members. This role works cross-functionally with internal stakeholders across the organization, reporting to the Executive Director in the region, and directly with members of the Executive Management Team (EMT). WHAT YOU’LL DO: Represent CABI and build relationships with external stakeholders to extend CABI’s international reputation and raise its profile, working closely with CABI’s Communication team to ensure appropriate visibility. Provide an enhanced engagement experience for existing and prospective Member Countries and serve as a focal point for Member Countries in the region, increasing the likelihood of renewals and timely fee payments – working in collaboration with Executive Directors and Membership. Develop strong and productive relationships with professional, corporate, government, and non-government partners, funding agencies, and regional and other bodies responsible for development cooperation and research to enhance donor and project partnerships and to develop new business opportunities - in collaboration with Executive Directors, Key Account Managers, and Regional Sales Managers. Provide regional intelligence for market opportunities and competitive threats and facilitate productive connections between local institutions and CABI’s Executive Management Team (EMT).
