Job Description

• The Earthworks Engineer specializes in soil mechanics, site grading, excavation, and complex ground stabilization operations.
• The incumbent takes direct technical ownership of challenging terrain projects, focusing heavily on executing efficient de-watering systems and land reclamation strategies to transform waterlogged or swampy areas into stable, buildable construction sites.

Responsibilities

De-Watering Operations & Water Management:

• Design, plan, and supervise comprehensive de-watering systems (wellpoints, deep wells, sump pumping, and cofferdams) for waterlogged and high-water-table sites.
• Monitor ground-water movement, control discharge safely, and ensure continuous site dryness to prevent structural settling or soil liquefaction during excavation.
• Select, deploy, and maintain appropriate pumping machinery, piping networks, and filtration units to match site-specific hydrological conditions.

Land Reclamation & Site Stabilization:

• Spearhead land reclamation initiatives by evaluating soil composition, managing dredging output, and overseeing sand-filling operations.
• Implement ground improvement techniques such as surcharging, vibro-compaction, geo-textile installation, and stone columns to stabilize weak swamp foundations.
• Supervise heavy earth-moving machinery (excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, and compactors) to achieve proper grading, compaction densities, and elevation profiles.

Geotechnical & Surveying Analysis:

• Review soil test reports, geological surveys, and topographical data to formulate safe and cost-effective earthworks execution methodologies.
• Collaborate closely with surveyors to monitor settlement markers, slope stability, and excavation depth tolerances.

HSE & Quality Assurance Compliance:

• Enforce stringent Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) protocols around excavation pits, water bodies, and heavy machinery operation zones.
• Ensure full compliance with environmental protection regulations, erosion control standards, and statutory civil engineering codes.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Reporting:

• Coordinate daily with site supervisors, project managers, and the General Manager (Technical) during toolbox briefings to align field targets.
• Maintain accurate logs of earthwork volumes, fuel consumption, equipment deployment, and daily site progress reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Professional registration (e.g., COREN) is an added advantage.
• Minimum of 10 years of dedicated civil engineering experience, with a proven, verifiable track record in handling de-watering projects and land reclamation in challenging swampy or waterlogged terrains.
• Deep expertise in hydrogeology, soil mechanics, and pump system engineering.
• Proficiency in civil engineering design software and earthwork volume calculation tools.
• Strong operational leadership, problem-solving skills under adverse weather/site conditions, and attention to safety detail.
