We are seeking a skilled and experienced Earth Moving Mechanic to inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty earth-moving and construction equipment.
This role is ideal for a technically competent and safety-conscious Earth Moving Mechanic who can maintain heavy equipment to a high standard, minimize equipment downtime, and ensure machinery remains safe, reliable, and operational.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, service, maintain, and repair earth-moving and heavy-duty equipment.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine-related faults.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on heavy equipment.
Repair and maintain excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, graders, backhoe loaders, dump trucks, and other construction equipment.
Carry out routine servicing, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and fluid checks.
Inspect engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, brakes, undercarriages, and other major components.
Identify equipment faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and testing procedures.
Replace or repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical components.
Conduct equipment inspections and ensure machinery is safe and fit for operation.
Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance activities.
Monitor equipment performance and report major faults or maintenance requirements to supervisors.
Ensure proper use and care of tools, workshop equipment, and spare parts.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workshop and work area.
Follow company HSE policies, equipment manufacturer's specifications, and applicable safety standards.
Respond to equipment breakdowns and carry out repairs at project or field locations when required.
Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications & Requirements
Certificate, Trade Test, OND, HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanics, Automobile Engineering, or a related field.
Must have 2 - 5 years' experience as an Earth Moving Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, or Diesel Mechanic.
Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy-duty earth-moving and construction equipment.
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, transmissions, electrical systems, and mechanical components.
Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment faults effectively.
Knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance practices.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, and maintenance instructions.
Good knowledge of workshop tools and diagnostic equipment.
Strong understanding of occupational health and safety requirements.
Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to equipment breakdowns promptly.
Willingness to work at project sites and remote locations when required.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and mechanical components, with the ability to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with major brands of earth-moving equipment.
Experience in construction, oil & gas, dredging, marine, or heavy engineering environments.
Knowledge of modern electronic and computerized equipment diagnostic systems.
Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and electrical faults.
Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
