Director of Investment — Heavy Industries
Brendan Nicholas Holdings
Job Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Monthly Base Salary: 2,500,000(two million five hundred thousand salary)
Role Summary
Brendan Nicholas Holdings (BNH) is recruiting a Director of Investment for its Heavy Industries Desk. This is a governance and investment role rather than an operating position. The Director of Investment does not negotiate contracts or manage delivery; those responsibilities belong to the Chief Executives and Finance Officers appointed to run each company on the desk. The role is responsible for assessing opportunities, assembling boards and executive teams, determining the conditions that must be satisfied before capital is deployed, and originating new companies while existing ones progress.
Key Responsibilities
- Activate and govern the desk: constitute companies, appoint boards and executives, and maintain the required governance standards.
- Capitalise the primary vehicle in line with an approved plan, and hold it to that plan through its first year of operation.
- Originate the desk's next company.
- Build the institutional relationships in the mining sector that enable the group to originate opportunities, access capital, and be recognised as a credible participant.
Targets for the role are set annually by the institution before the year begins.
Requirements
Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
- Direct ownership of an asset or company from origination to operation, rather than an advisory role.
- Decision-making authority over capital, rather than a role limited to recommending its deployment.
- Experience appointing and removing senior executives.
- Experience operating within a governance structure, including the constraints it imposed.
- Personal relationships within the mining sector.
How to Apply
Interested candidates should submit a CV and a cover note of no more than two pages to careers@brendannicholas.com. The cover note should address:
- One initiative the candidate built that continued beyond their direct involvement, and what enabled this.
- One capital allocation decision the candidate made, and what they would approach differently in hindsight.
- One opportunity the candidate declined that others pursued, and the reasoning behind that decision.
- Three professional relationships in the mining sector held personally by the candidate, naming the institution and the level of contact. These will be subject to verification.
