Dcs Operator At Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company Limited (seepco)

As a DCS (Distributed Control System) Operator, you will be at the heart of our ammonia plant operations monitoring, controlling, and optimizing production processes from our Central Control Room (CCR) to ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor the ammonia plant via DCS console, covering reforming, shift conversion, CO removal, methanation, ammonia synthesis loop, and utility systems
• Execute plant start-up, shutdown, emergency shutdown (ESD), and trip recovery procedures in strict compliance with approved operating manuals
• Monitor and control critical process variables, pressure, temperature, flow, level, and composition, to keep operations within design and safety parameters
• Perform first-line troubleshooting of process upsets, control system alarms, and equipment deviations; escalate appropriately
• Coordinate seamlessly with Shift Supervisors, Senior Operators, Field Operators, Maintenance, and HSE teams during PTW activities and operational changes
• Manage steam methane reformer (SMR), synthesis gas compressors, ammonia converter, and refrigeration systems performance for optimal yield and energy efficiency
• Maintain accurate shift logs, production reports, alarm summaries, and operations records
• Ensure full compliance with HSE policies, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Nigerian regulatory requirements (NUPRC / NMDPRA)
• Participate in HAZOP studies, safety drills, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Support training and mentoring of junior operators and DCS trainees

Qualification/Requirements

• HND / B.Sc. / B.Eng. in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Instrumentation & Control, or a related discipline
• 6 - 10 years of hands-on DCS/Control Room operations experience, with proven ammonia plant operations experience as a key requirement
• Demonstrated hands-on experience with ammonia synthesis, syngas production, and utility systems
• systems Working proficiency in at least one major DCS platform, Yokogawa CENTUM, Honeywell Experion, Emerson DeltaV, ABB, or Siemens
• Strong knowledge of SIS/ESD systems, SCADA, PLCs, and P&ID interpretation
• interpretation Solid grounding in Process Safety Management, Permit to Work (PTW) systems, and HSE standards
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills with proven ability to perform under pressure
• Added Advantage: OEM process training, urea plant exposure, NEBOSH certification, or experience in Nigerian fertilizer/petrochemical complexes
