Job Purpose
The Credit Risk Analyst is responsible for evaluating customer creditworthiness, underwriting loan applications across digital and traditional channels, and managing overall loan portfolio risk.
The role ensures that all credit decisions align with the Company's risk appetite framework, credit policies, and regulatory guidelines to maintain high portfolio quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
Credit Assessment & Underwriting:
Conduct comprehensive credit risk evaluations and financial analysis for individual, SME, salary-backed, and corporate loan applicants.
Evaluate borrowing requests against credit policy guidelines, risk-appetite metrics, and regulatory standards.
Perform background checks, credit bureau inquiries, bank statement analyses, and qualitative risk assessments prior to facility approval.
Prepare clear, concise credit appraisal memos and present recommendations to the Credit Committee.
Conduct preliminary and in-depth customer due diligence for lending applications prior to credit approval.
Portfolio Risk Monitoring & Analytics:
Continuously monitor and analyze loan portfolio performance to identify early warning signs of credit deterioration or default.
Track concentration risks across customer segments, industries, and product types.
Monitor credit policy performance and propose adjustments to risk acceptance criteria as market conditions evolve.
Collaborate with business development and sales teams to structure loan facilities appropriately while mitigating potential risk exposure.
Documentation & Compliance:
Ensure customer and transaction records are complete, accurate, and fully compliant with internal credit policies and regulatory guidelines.
Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure complete KYC/AML checks and policy adherence.
Prepare periodic portfolio health, risk exposure, and impairment/provisioning reports for management review.
Stay abreast of regulatory developments, macroeconomic shifts, and industry best practices in credit risk management.
Stakeholder Management & Collaboration:
Work closely with Sales, Digital Products, Operations, Legal, and Compliance teams to ensure efficient and timely credit processing.
Engage with external parties such as credit reference bureaus and rating agencies.
Present risk insights, pipeline analyses, and portfolio health metrics to management.
Person Specification
General Education:
Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, or a related discipline.
Experience:
Minimum 3 - 5 years of experience in credit risk analysis, financial analysis, or underwriting within a financial institution or microfinance bank.
Knowledge of financial analysis, credit scoring, credit processes, and digital lending platforms.
Solid understanding of lending dynamics and risk management within the Nigerian financial market.
