Salt is partnering with one of South Africa's leading financial services brands to find a Copy Editor to join their in-house copywriting team. This is a role for someone who reads everything twice and catches what others miss.
You'll be the final editorial check on print work before it goes to production. This includes brochures, posters, in-branch material, and more. Your job is to make sure every piece is clear, accurate, consistent, and true to the brand. You'll work alongside writers and designers rather than at the end of a distant approval chain, adding a layer of editorial rigour that protects the meaning of the message.
What you'll be doing
Copy editing and proofreading print work from working layouts through to final proofs
Checking spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and consistency against brand voice and writing standards
Reviewing designed layouts for missing, duplicated, incorrect, or misplaced copy
Verifying names, dates, figures, and prices against approved source material
Making sure legal and mandatory copy appears exactly as approved, with nothing changed, shortened, or omitted
Marking up clear corrections and rechecking amended artwork
Working with copywriters to improve clarity without changing the intended meaning
Helping build and maintain consistent editorial standards across all print work
Managing several jobs at once without dropping the standard
What you'll bring
Proven experience as a copy editor, sub editor, proofreader, or senior editorial professional
A strong background in print, publishing, advertising, retail, or high-volume marketing material
Excellent written English with a strong command of UK English
Experience proofreading designed layouts, not only Word documents
A solid understanding of style guides and editorial consistency
Confidence working with legal, regulatory, or mandatory copy where wording must stay exact
The ability to stay accurate under tight deadlines
The confidence to question something constructively when it doesn't look or read right
