- The Operations Control Room Superintendent is responsible for supervising and coordinating real-time terminal operations from the Operations Control Room to ensure safe, efficient, and hitch-free vessel and yard activities.
- The role ensures effective monitoring of vessel and yard operations via the Terminal Operating System (TOS) and CCTV systems, seamless dissemination of operational information, and strong coordination between Yard, Shipside, Equipment Control, and Planning teams to optimize terminal performance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Operations Monitoring & Control:
- Monitor live vessel and yard operations via TOS and Control Room systems
- Monitor movements of Cargo Handling Equipment (CHE) across yard, shipside, and terminal through CCTV Ensure efficient use and application of TOS in monitoring and controlling operations
- Ensure smooth and uninterrupted operational flow during vessel and yard activities
- Identify operational bottlenecks and escalate promptly
- Maintain accurate operational logs and Control Room records.
Information Dissemination & Coordination:
- Disseminate relevant and accurate operational information/data to Yard and Ship-side teams in real time
- Ensure efficient execution of instructions provided by the Planning team
- Update vessel operation sequences based on planning instructions
- Ensure effective coordination with Yard and Ship-side teams for hitch-free operations.
Vessel Operations Coordination:
- Monitor live vessel operations and provide real-time updates
- Communicate with Shipping Agents regarding vessel operational status to support planning of berthing and sailing
- Plan and coordinate vessel and terminal operations for optimal performance
- Send soft copies of vessel departure reports at completion of operations to Vessel Command, Shipping Lines, Vessel Planners/Agents, and internal TICT recipients
- Prepare shift reports summarizing vessel productivity, yard performance, delays, and key operational events.
Performance Monitoring & Problem Resolution
- Report major operational delays or disruptions and propose corrective solutions
- Analyse causes of delays associated with vessel and yard operations
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and turnaround time
- Monitor vessel productivity, yard performance, and equipment allocation through TOS dashboards
- Liaise with Equipment Control team for proper distribution of equipment
- Coordinate with Technical Department and Plant unit for equipment availability and fault resolution
- Perform any other operations-related duties as may be required to support terminal efficiency and productivity
Minimum Educational Qualifications / Certifications / Years of Experience
- HND / Bachelor's Degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Transport Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Port or Shipping Operations Training.
- Minimum of 6 years' experience in terminal/port operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or control room role.
- Experience in vessel planning or yard operations coordination is an advantage.
Skills and Competency Requirements:
- Knowledge of cargo handling equipment deployment and coordination
- Strong knowledge of port/terminal operations (yard and shipside)
- Proficiency in Terminal Operating System (TOS)
- Ability to interpret operational dashboards and productivity metrics
- Strong coordination and multitasking ability
- Excellent communication and real-time decision-making skills
- High level of situational awareness and attention to detail
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure in a 24/7 shift environment.
