The Software Engineer designs, develops, tests, deploys and maintains secure, scalable and interoperable digital health software. The role translates user and business requirements into high-quality software that conforms to the approved national digital health architecture, national digital health standards, and regulatory requirements
Key Responsibilities:
Software Design and Development
Design, develop, test and maintain software components, services and integrations for digital health systems in line with approved requirements, architecture and technical specifications.
Translate user stories, functional requirements and workflows into technical designs and well-structured, maintainable, reusable code.
Build and maintain integrations between digital health systems using applicable health information exchange standards such as HL7 FHIR, and national registries (e.g., client, facility and health worker registries).
Apply secure coding practices and privacy-by-design principles, including authentication, authorisation, encryption and audit logging, in compliance with the Data Protection Act (DPA) and the Digital Health Act.
Design and optimise database schemas, queries and data pipelines to ensure data integrity, performance and scalability.
Participate in code reviews, pair programming and technical design discussions to uphold code quality and engineering standards.
Testing, Deployment and System Support

Monitor system performance, availability and logs; troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve defects and production incidents within agreed service levels.
Support the review and validation of software delivered by technology partners to confirm adherence to approved specifications, coding standards and security requirements.
Identify technical debt, performance bottlenecks and security vulnerabilities, and recommend and implement remediation measures.
Documentation and Collaboration
Produce and maintain clear technical documentation, including API specifications, system design notes, deployment guides and operational runbooks.
Work closely with solution architecture, product management, project management, quality assurance, cybersecurity and data management teams to ensure coordinated delivery.
Engage with technology and development partners to align on technical approaches, integration requirements and delivery timelines.
