About the role

The Consultant OBGYN provides specialist obstetrics and gynaecology care across the patient pathway.
This includes leading the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients in outpatient, inpatient, and referral settings.
The role involves providing senior clinical expertise, supervising and training junior medical staff, and contributing to the clinical standards and governance of the obstetrics and gynaecology service.

Responsibilities

Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients in obstetrics and gynaecology, including complex cases.
Act as a senior point of referral for junior medical staff.
Supervise, teach, and support the training and development of senior medical officers, medical officers, and trainees.
Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, and patient-safety activities.
Coordinate care with other specialties, diagnostics, pharmacy, nursing, allied health, and managed-care/HMO functions while applying evidence-based, cost-effective practice.
Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.

Requirements

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) from a recognised institution.
Completion of national housemanship/internship and NYSC or valid exemption.
Minimum of 3 years of post-fellowship specialist experience in obstetrics and gynaecology.

Required skills:

Comprehensive specialist knowledge of obstetrics and gynaecology.
Ability to manage complex cases and provide senior clinical judgement.
Sound understanding of clinical governance, audit, patient safety, and evidence-based practice.
Ability to teach, supervise, and support junior medical staff.
Sound clinical record-keeping and competent use of hospital clinical systems.
Effective communication with patients, families, and colleagues.
Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
