The Consultant Cardiologist will provide specialist cardiovascular care, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with a wide range of cardiac conditions.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with other specialists and healthcare professionals to ensure safe, evidence-based, and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including history taking, physical examination, and risk assessment.
Diagnose and manage a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and valvular heart disease.
Perform and interpret relevant cardiac investigations, including ECG, echocardiography, Holter monitoring, and other appropriate diagnostic tests.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in line with current clinical guidelines and best practices.
Manage acute and emergency cardiac presentations, including acute coronary syndromes, arrhythmias, and cardiac emergencies.
Provide inpatient and outpatient cardiology consultations and follow-up care.
Collaborate with other medical and surgical specialists in the multidisciplinary management of patients.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors, medical officers, and other clinical staff.
Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programmes, and patient-safety initiatives.
Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely clinical documentation and medical records.
Promote preventive cardiology through patient education, cardiovascular risk-factor modification, and lifestyle counselling.
Keep abreast of current developments, guidelines, and best practices in cardiology and cardiovascular medicine.
Participate in clinical teaching, research, and continuous professional development.
Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental protocols and clinical pathways.
Participate in on-call duties and departmental rosters as required.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Fellowship in Cardiology/Internal Medicine (FWACP, FMCP, FWACP Cardiology, or equivalent recognized qualification).
Minimum 3 years' post-fellowship experienceas a Consultant Cardiologist.
Demonstrable experience in the diagnosis and management of complex cardiovascular conditions and cardiac emergencies.
Experience in echocardiography and interpretation of ECG and other cardiovascular investigations is desirable.
Strong clinical judgement, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, teaching, and research is desirable.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high standard of patient-centred care.
