The Consultant Anaesthesiologist will provide expert anaesthetic, perioperative, and critical care services, ensuring safe and high-quality patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct pre-operative assessment and develop appropriate anaesthetic plans.
Administer and manage general and regional anaesthesia.
Provide intra-operative monitoring and post-operative care.
Manage emergency cases, resuscitation, and critical care support.
Provide anaesthetic support across surgical specialties, including Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics.
Supervise and mentor junior doctors and other anaesthetic staff.
Lead and participate in clinical audits, quality improvement, and patient-safety initiatives.
Ensure anaesthetic equipment is functional, safe, and properly maintained.
Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with professional and regulatory standards.
Keep abreast of current developments and best practices in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Participate in clinical research, teaching, and continuous professional development.
Participate in on-call duties and departmental rosters.
Education & Experience
MBBS or equivalent qualification.
Full registration and valid practising licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
Fellowship in Anaesthesia (FMCA/FWACS) or equivalent recognized qualification.
Minimum of 3 years' post-fellowship experience as a Consultant Anaesthesiologist.
Demonstrable experience managing complex anaesthetic and emergency cases.
Strong clinical judgement, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, teaching, and research is desirable.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a high standard of patient care.
