Job Summary

  • The Community Relations Officer supports effective relationships between the company, host communities, the Operator, government institutions and security agencies. The role coordinates stakeholder engagement, monitors community projects and commitments, supports PIA, HCDT and GMOU obligations, identifies and escalates emerging community risks, and maintains accurate records to promote stable operations and positive community relations.

Job Details

  • The Community Relations Officer will coordinate the company's engagement with host communities, the Operator, government institutions and security agencies within the OML 30 area. The role is responsible for supporting productive stakeholder relationships, addressing community concerns and helping to minimise disruptions to operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and attending community, stakeholder, GMOU and relevant committee meetings.
  • Maintaining regular communication with host communities, community leaders, the Operator and government agencies.
  • Monitoring community projects, CSR commitments, scholarships, land leases and HCDT obligations.
  • Identifying, documenting and escalating community, security and environmental risks that may affect operations.
  • Supporting compliance with applicable PIA, HCDT and GMOU requirements.
  • Maintaining community issue, risk, project and stakeholder records.
  • Tracking agreed actions, payment obligations, project milestones and community commitments through completion.
  • Preparing community reports, meeting minutes, risk assessments, budget-performance reports and management updates.
  • Supporting consultation on surveillance and grass-cutting contracts implemented under the GMOU.
  • Promoting timely resolution of community issues and maintaining positive relationships that support stable operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Public Administration, Communications, Law or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience in community relations, stakeholder engagement, corporate social responsibility or external relations, preferably within the oil and gas industry. Prefarably 8 - 13 years of relevant experience.
  • Practical understanding of host-community engagement and the operating environment within the Niger Delta.
  • Knowledge of the Petroleum Industry Act, Host Communities Development Trust requirements and GMOU arrangements.
  • Experience engaging community leaders, government institutions, security agencies and other external stakeholders.
  • Ability to identify, document and escalate community, security and operational risks.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, conflict-resolution and relationship-management skills.
  • Good report writing, meeting documentation and record-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain issue registers, action trackers, project records and stakeholder databases.
  • Willingness to travel within Delta State and attend community or stakeholder meetings when required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
