Description

  • We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Chief Engineer to oversee the safe, efficient and reliable operation, maintenance and repair of the vessel's propulsion system, auxiliary machinery, electrical systems and other engineering equipment.
  • The successful candidate will lead the Engine Department, ensure compliance with the Company's Safety Management System (SMS), and work closely with the Master/Captain to maintain vessel safety, operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the vessel's main propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment and other onboard machinery.
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise preventive and corrective maintenance of mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Lead and manage the Engine Department, including allocation of duties, watchkeeping and supervision of engineering personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's Safety Management System (SMS), ISM requirements, safety procedures and applicable marine regulations.
  • Maintain accurate machinery maintenance records, reports, inventories, spare parts and technical documentation.
  • Coordinate vessel repairs, maintenance activities, dry-docking and refit works.
  • Liaise with the Master/Captain on vessel operations, maintenance, safety and technical matters.
  • Ensure all safety, firefighting, pollution-control and environmental protection equipment under the Engineering Department is maintained in good working condition.
  • Support vessel surveys and ensure compliance with applicable flag-state and classification requirements.
  • Prepare technical reports, repair specifications and recommendations for materials, equipment and services.
  • Train, guide and develop junior engineering personnel and crew members.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other technical duties as assigned by Management or the Master.

Requirements

  • University Degree / HND in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Class 1 Certificate of Competency (CoC) or equivalent is required.
  • 10 - 15 years of relevant engineering experience, with at least 8 years in an engineering team and/or engineering management role within the marine or oil & gas industry.
  • Strong knowledge of marine machinery, vessel systems and engine operations.
  • Proven experience in vessel maintenance, dry-docking and classification requirements.
  • Good knowledge of applicable marine regulations, safety standards and the Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Experience working with vessel surveys, repairs and statutory requirements.
  • Strong leadership, planning, communication and people-management skills.
  • Good documentation and record-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively coordinate with different teams.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours and travel offshore at short notice.
