Job Summary

  • We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to oversee accounting operations across the group.
  • The successful candidate will ensure accurate transaction processing, reconciliations, journals, ledger integrity, and efficient month-end closing in collaboration with the Financial Controller.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily accounting postings for sales, expenses, accruals, prepayments, and journals.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date General Ledger (GL)records, including proper coding and resolution of suspense items.
  • Ensure journals are properly authorised and supported by required documentation.
  • Perform and supervise bank, clearing, payment gateway, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain balance sheet schedules and supporting documentation for month-end close and audits.
  • Maintain the Fixed Asset Register, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
  • Ensure proper expense recognition, capitalization, and accounting cut-offs.
  • Support the Financial Controller with trial balance schedules, journal packs, reconciliations, and month-end reporting.
  • Strengthen controls around invoice processing, documentation, and ledger management.
  • Collaborate with Tech/Data teams to improve accounting automation and reduce manual errors.
  • Work with Internal Control teams to address and close accounting-related findings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalentqualification strongly preferred; part-qualified candidates may be considered.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experiencein accounting operations, including journals, reconciliations, and ledger management.
  • Experience in retail, e-commerce, distribution, or other high-volume transaction environmentsis an advantage.
  • Experience with payment gateway and POS reconciliations is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of accruals, prepayments, cut-offs, fixed assets, and supporting schedules.
  • Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisation, confidentiality, and ability to meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to operating locations.

ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent strongly preferred; part-qualified candidates may be considered based on experience. 10+ years' experience in accounting operations, including journals, reconciliations, and general ledger management. Experience in retail, e-commerce, distribution, or other high-volume environmentsis an advantage. Experience with ERP/accounting systems, spreadsheets, payment gateways, and POS reconciliations. Strong knowledge ofaccruals, prepayments, cut-offs, fixed assets, and financial controls. Strong attention to detail, organisation, ownership, and ability to work under pressure. High level of confidentiality, documentation discipline, and audit readiness. Working Conditions: Full-time hybrid role with occasional travel. Peak workload occurs duringmonth-end close and audit periods.
