UMAA is seeking to employ qualified and experienced persons to fill the position of Cable Bolt OperatorThis is Obuasi based Fixed Term Contract position with a competitive work roster at its operation in Obuasi. The Cable Bolt Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient installation of cable bolts, mesh, and other ground support systems in underground mining operations to ensure mine stability. This role ensures the stability of mine roofs and walls to prevent rock falls and maintain safe working conditions
Key Responsibilities
Operate underground loaders to muck and transport ore/waste to stockpiles, crushers, or trucks.

Operate and maintain cable bolting rigs, hydraulic drills, and ancillary equipment to install cable bolts, rock bolts, and mesh according to mine plans and engineering specifications.

Conduct quality control checks to ensure cable bolts are installed according to specifications.

Interpret ground support plans and install bolts to specified patterns, lengths, and tensions

Drill holes to the required depth and angle using dedicated cable bolting rigs.

Prepare, cut, and insert cables into drilled holes, ensuring correct placement as per engineering designs.

Mix and pump grout into cable bolt holes for reinforcement and stability.

Perform pre-start and post-operational checks on cable bolting equipment to ensure safe and efficient performance

Monitor equipment performance and report faults or defects to the maintenance team

Accurately record daily work activities, including bolt installation data and materials used.

Technical or vocational training or certification in underground cable bolting is an advantage

At least 3-5 years of experience in underground mining with specific expertise in cable bolting

Experience operating mechanized cable bolting rigs such as Sandvik, Atlas Copco or similar cable bolting machines

Strong understanding of underground ground support techniques, geotechnical principles and mine safety standards

Must possess a valid Ghanaian driving and operating licenses (C & E Classes) and can drive SUV underground.
