- The Business Strategy Officer will support the development, execution, monitoring, and review of corporate and business strategies across the organization.
- The role is responsible for conducting business, market, competitive, operational, and financial analysis to generate insights that support strategic decision-making, business performance improvement, innovation, and enterprise transformation.
- The role will work closely with business units, departments and key stakeholders to develop business plans, pitch decks, track strategic initiatives, identify business performance gaps, recommend improvement actions and ensure alignment between corporate objectives and execution outcomes.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Strategy Development and Execution Support:
- Support the development, preparation, review and implementation of corporate, business unit and functional strategies.
- Assist in translating enterprise strategic priorities into measurable initiatives, action plans, KPIs and performance targets.
- Work with departments and business units to ensure alignment between strategic objectives and day-to-day execution.
- Contribute to strategy documents, business cases, board reports, management presentations and executive updates.
Business Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
- Track the progress of strategic initiatives, business priorities, and transformation programmes across the organization.
- Analyze business performance data to identify trends, gaps, risks, underperformance areas and opportunities for improvement.
- Prepare performance insights, dashboards, reports and recommendations for management decision-making.
- Support weekly, monthly, quarterly, half-year and annual business review meetings by preparing reports, presentations, minutes and action trackers.
- Follow up with responsible stakeholders to ensure timely closure of agreed action items from business reviews and strategy sessions.
Market, Industry and Competitive Intelligence:
- Conduct market research, industry analysis and competitor benchmarking to support business growth and strategic positioning.
- Monitor emerging trends, technologies, regulatory changes, customer needs and industry best practices relevant to the business.
- Assess new markets, product opportunities, service lines and strategic growth options.
- Support market sizing, feasibility studies, go-to-market analysis and launch strategy development for new opportunities.
- Provide insights on competitive threats, market attractiveness and the organization's ability to win in existing and new markets.
Business and Financial Analysis:
- Conduct business, financial and operational analysis to support management decisions.
- Analyze revenue, cost, profitability, productivity and performance trends across business areas.
- Develop and maintain models to support budgeting, forecasting, business planning and strategic initiatives.
- Identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost optimization, operational efficiency and process improvement.
- Support financial due diligence and strategic assessment of investment opportunities, partnerships, mergers, acquisitions or expansion initiatives where required.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop business plan and pitch decks for the businesses.
- Support transformation initiatives aimed at improving execution discipline, productivity, customer experience, operational efficiency and business outcomes.
- Work with stakeholders to document current-state challenges, define future-state improvements and support implementation of agreed solutions.
- Recommend data-driven actions to improve performance, reduce bottlenecks and strengthen business execution.
Product, Service and Solution Assessment:
- Assess the organization's products, services and solutions to identify improvement opportunities and strategic growth potential.
- Provide insights on product performance, market relevance, customer value, competitive positioning and commercial viability.
- Support the evaluation of new product ideas, innovation opportunities and business expansion initiatives.
- Work with relevant teams to recommend improvements that enhance customer value, revenue generation and business competitiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement and Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with departments, business units and leadership teams to gather information, validate insights and align on strategic actions.
- Engage stakeholders to understand business challenges, performance issues, strategic priorities and improvement opportunities.
- Support cross-functional strategy execution by ensuring clarity of objectives, responsibilities, timelines and expected outcomes.
- Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support strategy and transformation objectives.
Job Specifications
Academic Qualifications:
- Minimum of a first degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Management Sciences, Social Sciences, Engineering, Information Technology or any related discipline.
- A postgraduate degree in Business, Strategy, Finance, Management or a related field will be an added advantage.
Professional Qualifications:
- Professional certification in Strategy Management, Business Analysis, Project Management, Data Analytics, Financial Modelling, Performance Management, Change Management or Innovation Management will be an added advantage.
- Examples include CBAP, BIDA, CCBA, PMP, PRINCE2, Agile/Scrum
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in strategy, business analysis, management consulting, corporate planning, business performance, research, financial analysis, transformation or a related function.
