Key Responsibilities

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepare and file all statutory tax returns accurately and within regulatory deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations.
  • Compute and reconcile monthly and annual tax liabilities.
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise management on compliance requirements.

Tax Planning and Advisory:

  • Assist in developing and implementing tax planning strategies to optimize the organization's tax position while ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Provide tax guidance to internal stakeholders on business transactions and contracts.
  • Support management in evaluating the tax implications of business decisions and projects.

Tax Reporting and Reconciliation:

  • Prepare tax schedules and reconciliations for financial reporting.
  • Reconcile tax accounts with the general ledger.
  • Ensure accurate tax provisions in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reports for management.

Audit and Regulatory Liaison:

  • Coordinate tax audits conducted by regulatory authorities and external auditors.
  • Liaise with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), State Internal Revenue Services, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Prepare and submit responses to tax queries and assessments.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of tax disputes and outstanding tax matters.

Indirect and Withholding Taxes:

  • Manage Value Added Tax (VAT), Withholding Tax (WHT), Company Income Tax (CIT), Education Tax, National Information Technology Development Levy (NITDA Levy), Capital Gains Tax (CGT), and other applicable statutory taxes.
  • Ensure timely remittance of all tax deductions.

Process Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve tax processes and internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate tax documentation and records.
  • Support the implementation of tax compliance systems and automation initiatives.

Team Support:

  • Supervise and mentor junior tax officers where applicable.
  • Support cross-functional teams on tax-related matters.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Tax Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline with 4 - 5 years of relevant experience in taxation, preferably within a manufacturing, FMCG, or multinational organization.
  • ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) qualification is mandatory.
  • ACCA or CITN (Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria) certification is an added advantage.
  • Membership of relevant professional bodies is desirable
  • Hands-on experience with corporate tax compliance, tax audits, and statutory reporting.
  • Experience dealing with FIRS and State Internal Revenue Services.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, financial functions).
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, or similar accounting software.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong analytical and financial reporting skills.
