Assistant Housekeeper

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, hands-on leadership and supervision to the housekeeping team across guest rooms and public areas.
  • Coordinate daily housekeeping operations, including room assignments, room readiness, cleaning schedules and departmental priorities.
  • Conduct regular room and public-area inspections to ensure compliance with hotel standards and SOPs.
  • Monitor room status and work closely with Front Office to ensure rooms are released promptly and accurately.
  • Supervise staffing levels, productivity, attendance and deployment of colleagues in line with operational requirements. Coach, mentor and develop housekeeping colleagues while promoting accountability, teamwork and high performance. Ensure appropriate control and availability of linen, uniforms, guest amenities, cleaning materials and housekeeping equipment.
  • Monitor departmental stock levels, usage and controls and minimise wastage and losses.
  • Respond proactively to guest requests, complaints and service recovery requirements relating to housekeeping.
  • Identify operational gaps and implement timely corrective action before they affect the guest experience.
  • Ensure all housekeeping procedures, health and safety requirements and hotel standards are consistently followed.
  • Support training, onboarding and performance management of housekeeping colleagues.
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with Front Office, Engineering, Food & Beverage and other departments. Prepare and maintain relevant housekeeping reports, records and operational controls.
  • Deputise for the Executive Housekeeper when required.

Key Requirements

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Proven experience in a Housekeeping supervisory or Assistant Housekeeper role within a hotel environment.
  • Strong knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, procedures and service standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, coach and develop a diverse team.
  • Strong people-management, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
  • The ability to effectively manage room readiness, inspections, staffing, productivity, linen, amenities and departmental controls.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards.
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative and make sound operational decisions.
  • A hands-on and visible leadership approach, with the ability to work effectively on the floors alongside the team.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify operational gaps and implement practical solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced hotel environment.
  • A relevant qualification in Hospitality Management, Housekeeping Operations or a related field.

  • The individual must be sufficiently hands-on to understand and manage the realities of a busy hotel environment, while also demonstrating the organisation, discipline and analytical capability required to support effective Rooms Division operations.
