Reports To: Manager - Financial Reporting

Division: Finance

Mission:

  • The implementation of MTNN accounting policies in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards.

Description:

  • Assist in analysing, developing and managing the implementation of MTN Nigeria accounting policies across the organization in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Maintain and update financial policies and procedures across the whole company in accordance with Group Policy and IFRS
  • Review Product Content Document (PCD)/draft contracts in line with IFRS and Group accounting policies to highlight accounting implications of proposition
  • Perform impact assessment on new/amended accounting standards and organise knowledge share sessions for concerned business units
  • Collaborate closely with other financial operations team to produce statutory reports including interim and annual reports.
  • Conduct technical research on complex commercial transactions and provide accounting consultation advice.
  • Actively participate in month-end close activities
  • Liaise with external and internal auditors to ensure smooth audit processes.
  • Participate in regular internal and external workshops/training regarding accounting issues and practices.
  • Handle complex and unusual accounting issues and transaction under IFRS. Offer expert guidance on resolving non-standard transactions.
  • Drive the preparation and submission of financial statements, ensuring they meet all statutory requirements and adhere to international accounting standards (IFRS). Regularly monitor changes in regulatory frameworks to ensure organizational compliance and advise on necessary adjustments.
  • Plan and coordinate internal and external audit reviews, ensuring audit activities are completed on time while addressing and resolving audit findings promptly.
  • Act as an interface between finance, operations, external auditors, and regulatory bodies. Facilitate transparent communication to align financial reporting objectives across all teams, ensuring consistent and accurate data flow.
  • Provide critical financial insights and trends analysis to support the MTN's strategic initiatives. Assist in forecasting and budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with business goals and growth plans.
  • Develop and recommend best practices to refine reporting processes. This includes recommendation of new practices and maintenance of high standards.

Education:

  • First degree in Accounting or related subjects.
  • Fluent in English
  • Professional Accounting Qualification (ICAN, ACCA etc.)

Experience:

3 - 7 years' experience in an area of specialisation; with experience working with others

  • Experience working in a medium organization
  • Experience handling complex IFRS Accounting Standard issues at an internationally affiliated audit firm.
  • Experience within a telecommunication environment will be desirable
  • Experience in a Financial Management capacity or audit experience.
  • Process reengineering project experience
