We are seeking a highly organised, analytical, and experienced Accountant to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Department. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing reconciliations, monitoring cash flow, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing financial information to support management decision-making.
The Accountant will also supervise the Accounts team, strengthen financial controls, and ensure that financial processes are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in line with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance & Accounts Department.
Supervise, coordinate, and provide guidance to members of the Accounts team.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and accounting documentation.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
Prepare and analyse income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other management reports.
Monitor daily transactions, income, expenses, receivables, payables, and cash movements.
Review and approve accounting entries and supporting documentation in line with established approval processes.
Perform and review bank, cash, customer, supplier, and other account reconciliations.
Monitor accounts receivable and payable and follow up on outstanding balances.
Ensure proper recording and reconciliation of revenue from clinical services, pharmacy, laboratory, HMO, and other revenue streams.
Monitor cash flow and provide management with regular updates on the organisation\'s financial position.
Support the preparation and monitoring of departmental and organisational budgets.
Analyse financial performance and highlight significant variances, risks, and areas requiring management attention.
Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and internal financial policies.
Coordinate the preparation of documents required for statutory, internal, and external audits.
Liaise with auditors, banks, vendors, tax consultants, and other relevant stakeholders when required.
Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory financial and tax-related reports.
Review payroll-related financial records and ensure appropriate accounting entries.
Monitor financial controls and identify areas for improvement.
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.
Ensure proper filing, documentation, and safekeeping of financial records.
Support management in financial planning, cost control, and decision-making through accurate financial analysis.
Ensure adherence to segregation of duties and other internal financial controls.
Prepare periodic financial reports and presentations for management.
Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
4 - 8 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with experience supervising an Accounts/Finance function.
Professional qualification or part-qualification with ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, or another recognised accounting body is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, and financial controls.
Experience preparing and analysing financial statements.
Good understanding of applicable Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software.
Experience with financial reconciliation, cash-flow management, accounts payable and receivable.
