Position Overview

Proforce Defence is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented AC Technician to join our engineering and production team at our manufacturing facility in Ode Remo, Ogun State.

The successful candidate will be responsible for installing, diagnosing, repairing, and testing automotive Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and climate control units across our tactical, commercial, and specialized armored vehicle lines.

Key Responsibilities

  • HVAC System Assembly & Installation: Install, route, and charge complete automotive air conditioning systems, including compressors, condensers, evaporators, expansion valves, receiver-driers, and refrigerant lines on vehicle assembly lines.
  • Diagnostics & Leak Detection: Perform pressure testing, vacuum evacuation, electronic leak detection, and dye tracing to isolate refrigerant leaks, compressor failures, or system blockages.
  • Electrical & Controls Integration: Wire and integrate climate control switches, relays, thermostats, blower motors, pressure switches, and electronic control units (ECUs) into the main vehicle electrical harness.
  • Refrigerant Handling & Charging: Safely recover, recycle, and recharge automotive refrigerants (e.g., R134a, R1234yf) in accordance with environmental and industrial safety standards.
  • Pre-Delivery Climate Testing: Execute operational performance tests under simulated extreme temperature conditions to evaluate cooling efficiency, airflow velocity, and system durability in heavy-duty and armored cabins.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, component overhauls, and immediate HVAC troubleshooting identified during assembly or Quality Control (QC) inspections.

Key Engineering & Technical Knowledge Requirements

  • Automotive Thermodynamics & Refrigeration Cycles: Comprehensive understanding of vapor-compression refrigeration cycles, heat exchange principles, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamic properties of automotive refrigerants.
  • Automotive Electrical & Electronic Controls: Sound knowledge of DC electrical circuits, climate control sensors, relays, actuation motors, and electronic HVAC diagnostic protocols.
  • Heavy Vehicle & Armored Cabin HVAC Integration: Understanding of high-capacity climate control demands, dual-evaporator systems, auxiliary cooling units, and cabin pressurization in armored or tactical vehicles.
  • Technical Blueprint & Schematic Reading: Ability to read and interpret automotive mechanical layouts, electrical wiring diagrams, fluid routing schematics, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Environmental & Refrigerant Compliance: Knowledge of environmental regulations governing safe chemical handling, recovery procedures, and EPA/industrial safety standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: NABTEB, Trade Test Class 1, OND, or HND/B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 - 5 years of hands-on automotive AC installation and repair experience in a vehicle assembly plant, heavy equipment facility, or specialized automotive workshop.
  • Skills: Strong diagnostic problem-solving abilities, proficiency with manifold gauge sets, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, and high attention to workplace safety.
